The Destruction of Humanity: corrupting God’s image.

Who were the “sons of God” and the “giants” in Genesis 6, and what does the story have to do with today?

The so-called “Sethite View” is one idea that simply puzzles me, not only because it goes against the plain reading of Scripture, but because it also exhibits the ignorance that many Christians have regarding what is truly taking place in the world today. If you are unfamiliar with the “Sethite View,” it is the view that the “sons of God” in the sixth chapter of Genesis were nothing more than the godly descendants of Seth while the “daughters of men” were the supposed wicked daughters of Cain. Although it is not the purpose of this article to disprove this view, I would like to point out that the view is entirely based upon eisegesis, reading certain assumptions into the text rather than pulling all the relevant facts from the chapter itself.

For example, the sixth chapter of Genesis never mentions either Seth or Cain, or that this chapter is referring to any division of their descendants. Furthermore, what most readers miss is that verses 1 and 2 are a single sentence:

And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.

The setting is immediately established by the relative clause speaking of “when men began to multiply” and had daughters. This is a general statement of human activity which makes sense after the genealogy in the previous chapter, and distinguishes the human race from “the sons of God” in the main sentence of the text. The text reads that “the sons of God saw the daughters of men,” that is, the daughters in the preceding clause who were born “when men began to multiply on the face of the earth.” This is clearly describing other beings – fallen angels – taking human women as wives.

Yet, the skeptic naturally posits, Why would fallen angels be called by such a high-term as sons of God? Well, the Hebrew term “sons of God,” בְנֵי־הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ beney haElohiym, refers to one who is “a direct creation of God,” something true of only the first two human beings, and of angels. Genesis 5:1-3 explains this, saying:

This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made He him; male and female created He them… And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image…

Yes, it is true that in a sense every child is “knit together” by God in the mother’s womb, but every child born to a mother and father is born as a biological “son or daughter of Adam,” not a “son of God.” Therefore, since Adam sinned, it is necessary that every human is “born again” as a “son of God” by trusting in the Lord Jesus as the promised Messiah. Yet, even as born again believers, each person is still a “direct creation of Adam,” made a son of God indirectly through the work of the Lord Jesus.

The fact of the matter is that the history of this planet is far stranger than the majority would like to believe it to be. Further, this same majority are content to bury their heads in the sand in blissful ignorance of the agenda of the globalists.

First, the globalists have been for years steadily working toward the destruction of human genetics through the work of corporations like Monsanto with genetically-modified food (GMOs). Despite numerous tests which continually show that even animals will not touch GMO food unless given no other option and the only positive tests being the ones funded by the particular corporations that benefit from GMOS, much of the food in the United States is still genetically-modified. Thankfully, however, recent years have seen a surge in demand for Non-GMO products, and to meet consumer demands, more companies have begun to offer Non-GMO Verified products.

Second, and perhaps more insidious, is the rise of the transhumanist movement which aims at not merely genetically-modifying food, but genetically and technologically modifying humans. This may seem like science-fiction, but the 2045 Initiative – first begun in Russia by Dmitry Itzkov but is now a global scientific effort – projects that by 2025 the human brain will be able to be transplanted into an “avatar” at the death of the body, and by 2035 human consciousness and personality will be able to be transferred to an alternative carrier, the brain no longer necessary. Obviously, Itzkov is the most “optimistic” of transhumanist researchers regarding such a short timeline, but the point is, the technology is being researched and developed which is strikingly similar to what is described in the sixth chapter of Genesis that brought about the great flood.

What many readers of the Bible miss is that it was not merely moral corruption, verses 7 and 12 saying (emphasis added):

And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repententh Me that I have made them. … for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.

There has always been great speculation about how God could have repented, or “changed His mind,” about His creation. Yet, the key statement is “both man, and beast,” which exhibits that this is not referring to moral corruption. Animals do not sin; they just act as animals act. It was man that was put over the animals and it was man that fell into sin; the problems in the world and in the animal kingdom are the result of man’s sin against God, not because of any moral corruption in animals. Yet, we read of the days before the worldwide flood that “all flesh,” including animals, had become “corrupt,” and thus, referring not merely to the corruption of sin, but to the physical corruption of the “sons of God” coming down in the first few verses.

It is further evident, however, that Genesis 6 pertains to physical corruption by God’s twofold description of Noah in verse 9, that he was:

  1. A Just (or Righteous) Man.
  2. Perfect (or Spotless).

First, Noah was a man of godly character, and yet, he is secondly, described as “perfect in his generations.” One could argue that this refers to his being born into a godly family which feared the Lord; after all, his great-grandfather was Enoch who we are told “walked with God” and was taken bodily into heaven without seeing death (Genesis 5:24; Hebrews 11:5). Such is certainly true of Noah and the word בְּדֹֽרֹתָ֑יו beDorotayn, rendered “in his generations,” literally pertains to “lineage” or a “family line.” Although some translations such as the NASB and ISV render the word “in his times,” even these place a footnote that it literally means “in his generations.” The word refers to Noah’s “lineage” or “family line,” a group of persons related by birth, not merely the general “times” in which he was born.

However, Noah’s family line is said to have been “perfect,” and the Hebrew word rendered as “perfect” is תָּמִ֥ים tamiym which pertains to a spotless, unblemished animal without physical defect. It is the same word use of animals necessary for sacrifice in the book of Leviticus, and it is this word used to describe Noah’s “generations.” While the word may sometimes be used for moral perfection, such is not the ordinary usage of the word and is clearly not the usage in this passage because moral perfection is not passed down through genetics. The blessed apostle states clearly that “in Adam all die” (1 Corinthians 15:22) and “by one man sin entered the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men” (Romans 5:12). The issue is not about Noah’s raising up by his family, but that his lineage had not been corrupted by the intrusion of the fallen angels at the beginning of the chapter. Noah was not “perfect” in the moral sense; that becomes evident very soon after the flood when he plants a vineyard and gets drunk in his tent.

The corruption of “all flesh,” both man and beast, before the flood also explains the origin of the many stories within human mythologies of not just giants, but half-animal, half-human creatures such as centaurs, minotaurs, and satyrs. The noted 19th century Christian scholar E.W. Bullinger explains that the hybrid progeny, called “the mighty men which were of old, men of renown,” were “the heroes of Greek mythology. The remains of primitive truth corrupted in transmission.” To humans, the hybrid beings were renowned as great warriors, stories spread abroad about their feats. Yet, God looked on in sorrow, His divine order that everything reproduce “after its’ kind” superseded by rebellious angels.

It would also seem that there is a program in effect today to create “supersoldiers” akin to the hybrids that roamed the earth before the flood and, to a lesser degree, after the flood. I recommend that you would please watch the BBC documentary, Madness in the Fast Lane (click here to watch), which depicts two identical twin sisters who threw themselves into traffic in front of police officers and exhibit tremendous strength even after being hit by cars. Yet, later on, they suddenly became completely different people at the police station, quiet, small women that one person should have been able to subdue easily. Shockingly, no drugs were found in their systems, and as small as she was, one of the sisters went on later that same day to stab a man repeatedly, almost as if they could be “switched on” and “switched off.”

I know this sounds conspiratorial, but, taking into account the size of these women and the lack of any drugs in their systems, it leaves one to wonder. After all, the Georgia Guidestones, the so-called “Ten Commandments of the New World Order,” state that humanity must “be maintained under a half-billion.” Such would of course mean killing off or forcibly sterilizing 6.5 billion people. Furthermore, in England, Prince Philip stated several years back, “In the event that I am reincarnated, I would like to return as a deadly virus, in order to contribute something to solve overpopulation.” The whole idea that the earth is overpopulated and heading toward global climate catastrophe results from a lack of faith in the Word of God, for God Himself promised after the flood (Genesis 8:22):

While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

Yet, Christians ought not to be surprised or fearful by the direction the world is being taken, however. Thousands of years ago, the prophet Daniel foretold that the coming kingdom of the Antichrist would see a return of the hybridization program of the fallen angels, that “they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men” (Daniel 2:43). Many of the leading transhumanist scientists such as Nick Bostrom and Maxwell Mehlman openly state that what they intend to do has the very real possibility of destroying all life on the planet and yet they fully intend to continue treading beyond the bounds which God has put in place.

While there are several benefits transhumanists can point to as reasons for doing the research in which they are engaged, the words of the Lord from Matthew 24:22 echo in the background, “And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.” In Genesis 1:24, God placed clear boundaries between the kinds, yet the “directed evolution” as they call it of transhumanist science is ignorantly crossing the boundaries. God knows things that we as finite humans do not know and He placed the boundaries there for a reason.

As I said earlier, though, Christians ought not to be fearful by any of this. Our Lord, in admonishing His followers to watch for the signs of His return, says, “And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh” (Luke 21:28). As Christians we must take a clear stand against transhumanism and win souls for the Lord Jesus who may be looking to the movement for answers to life. In the end, our Lord will win the day, and thus, we have no reason to be hopeless. Rather, our stance is not to stop prophecy from happening, but to win souls for the Lord out of the hopeless movement.
